Sauteed Red Cabbage with Coconut Oil and Pear

Ingredients (3-4 persons):

  • 1/2 red cabbage (+/- 600 g)
  • 2 juicy, ripe (organic) pears
  • 2 shallots
  • 3 cloves
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of organic honey (according taste)
  • Himalayan salt
  • freshly grounded black pepper


  • remove the outer leaves of the red cabbage
  • cut the red cabbage in half, remove the hard parts out of it. (use the other half of the red cabbage for one of our other delicious healthy recipes, e.g. Summer Salad with Red Cabbage)
  • dice the red cabbage into thin slices
  • peel and dice the shallot
  • wash the pear and cut it into small pieces
  • take a large pan, add the diced red cabbage, the coconut oil, shallot, cloves and ½ a cup of water
  • let this simmer for about 15 minutes
  • after 15 minutes, add the pear and reheat for another 10 minutes
  • remove the cloves and season the dish with balsamic vinegar, Himalayan salt, freshly grounded black pepper and, if you prefer a bit more sweetness, some organic honey

Healthy food alternatives:

  • use apples instead of pears door apples
  • use (red) onion instead of shallots
  • use cinnamon instead of cloves
  • use apple vinegar instead of balsamic vinegar
